I'm in remission.
For those of you who don't know what that is, remission means that a patient is considered cancer free but not cured. You're considered in remission for up to five years, during which time they keep a close eye on you to make sure the cancer doesn't relapse. After the five years have passed you're considered "cured".
So although I'm not cured of cancer and there is still a chance it may relapse, this is actually a much bigger deal than the last update, which was kind of presented to me in a nebulous bullet point list of what the report said. She said said there was "no sign of the disease" but since she didn't use the word "remission" or "cancer free" I didn't think that counted and didn't expect this news until the fall.
I still have treatment (last chemo should be July 22 and then radiation therapy from last August to late September, give or take) but that's a BIG deal.

( Don't know what came over me. I mean, it's not like I haven't seen you half naked . . . or completely naked . . . before.Collapse )
Bad news: my LJ userpic pack expires 6/10. Probably won't be able to buy it again until I'm back to work in the fall. Grah.
- They expected a 30-40% decrease in the size of the tumor, but it ended up being a 50% shrink AND
- The uptake or intensity of the tumor has decreased - much of what's left is dead cell tissue AND
- All the fluid in my chest cavity (which is what caused my symptoms) is all gone :)
Chemo should be done in July, followed by a month off and then four weeks of radiation treatment. I'm well on my way to being a cancer survivor :)
I have cancer.
I don't know if I posted much about it here, but I'd had this cough since August that we couldn't get rid of. Of course we assumed it was a cold or something at first but it wouldn't go away and over time my breathing started to take a hit. Finally. on January 26th and my fourth doctor's visit they got an x-ray and saw massive fluid buildup in my chest cavity around my right lung. The doctor sent me to the ER for a cat scan to find out what was causing the fluid, and when they did that they found a mass between my lungs.
The kind of cancer I have is Hodgkin's Lymphoma, which is actually one of the easier cancers to treat and cure, so the odds are definitely in my favor (especially once other things like my age, relatively early stage, and an AWESOME oncologist are factored in). We're expecting me to be healthy in about 4-6 months, depending on how fast the chemo is able to shrink the tumor and get everything under control.
I got my first dose of chemo on Tuesday, and I've been mostly dealing with tired and some discomfort in my mouth. No hair loss yes, but supposedly that doesn't happen until around the second dose. I still think I'll be able to go to Anime Boston in May, and my friends and I are designing cosplay around keeping me safe from germs (chemo often sends your immune system for a loop and with that many people I'm going to need that). I have something called a picc line, which is an IV thing that will be in me until the treatment is done - it'll prevent me from getting stuck over and over again, and I got stuck a LOT during the hospital stay.
I'm still going to be writing fanfiction during my illness (and yes, I'm still super behind on posting Mass x Acceleration here on LJ) and any support you guys throw my way is more than appreciated.

Summary: Sanji and Nami move into their own apartment. Nami makes a request of Sanji.
( This was why Nami had fallen in love with this apartment.Collapse )
In other news, my weight FINALLY started going down again (my net loss is over 30 lbs - plus another 100 or so I kept regaining and re-losing ^_-). Granted, the reason isn't fantastic - there's a cough that doesn't seem to want to go away and it's been affecting my ability to eat, so although the weight is going away, it isn't the way I would like it to go away. Currently the best method of holding the cough at bay is honey, but most of the honey we have in the house now is old - it's still technically safe to eat, it's just not as pleasant to eat (probably good for tea, not good for straight up eating).
I could bitch about other things but you know what? I don't want to get into it - part of me does but I'd rather focus on happier things or at least less infuriating things.
